Ann Dyer, Chairman of the BoardI got involved with The Synapse mostly because I believe in the enriching effects of incorporating the humanities in medical education. I also think it's an awesome opportunity to provide a place for everyone to express some creativity, reflect on their experiences, or just let their voices be heard. In all our abundant free time, I love to take my dog on walks, do yoga, and binge watch Netflix.
Jessica Nguyen, Acquisition EditorSince coming to medical school, I wanted to find a new creative outlet, collaborate with other students and encourage my fellow peers to showcase their own creativity. And so, working on The Synapse as the acquisitions editor has been a perfect match! On my free time, I enjoy drawing, taking photos and watching a ridiculous amount of TV.
Cullen Soares, Copy EditorHowdy! I am Cullen Soares, one of the copy-editors for The Synapse. I will help you put your best foot forward when you submit articles for publication. I have prior experience writing for student-run newspapers. Now I am excited to be working on the other side of publishing--the editorial board. It is definitely a rewarding experience! In my spare time, I enjoy working with the Healthy Gardens club on campus.
Lily Luc, Design EditorI LOVE anything that screams “design” or “creativity.” I’ve studied art for several years, so I have a critical perspective for photography, graphic design, and fine arts. Nothing is more exciting than holding the key to a finalized and polished edition of each newsletter. As Design Editor, I get to ensure that all the submissions are in perfect harmony and are aesthetically pleasing to the readers. In my spare time, I indulge in Pinterest recipes and create my own Pins every now and then.
Shelby Pearman, Managing EditorHi! I’m The Synapse Managing Editor. I decided to be a part of this amazing group because I enjoy seeing the raw creativity of the people I get to call my colleagues, and I wanted to be on the team that shares that with the world. In my fifteen whole minutes of free time every month, I try to go bowfishing - my current obsession, and if possible, squeeze in some cross-stitching while I catch up on The Walking Dead.
Anand Jayanti, Board Member at LargeI went to UT Austin and majored in English and jumped between film and writing and science. I was happy to find room to do them all at once. I like surprises and in the long run even the bad ones.
Meherin Huque, Copy EditorHi I’m Meherin! I have a weird love for linguistics, grammar, and syntax (and the Oxford comma), so naturally I was drawn to the position of copy editor. I have experience as an editor for my high school newspaper as well as a scholarship committee on which I served at The University of Texas. I am excited to be a part of The Synapse to help showcase the brilliant and creative work of my colleagues. In my ample amount of free time as a medical student, I like to read.
Kavitha Krishnan, Design EditorMy position on the Synapse Board has allowed me to let out all of my creative urges onto a website page. Spending hours on a computer, fiddling around with website design will never get old. As design editor, I'm excited to make every edition of the newsletter better than the last. When I'm not website designing, I'm usually singing, Wikipedia-ing, or playing with dogs that aren't mine.
